Fan in Training

Being from Chicago means you have many sports teams to cheer for. Unfortunately, they all tend to be "maybe next year" teams.

Growing up I was never a baseball fan. I went to White Sox games because I got perfect attendance in elementary school, and free tickets were the reward. So I was kinda a fan of the Sox, but a big fan of going with my Grandma and Grandpa!

Will Leila be a Sox fan?

In my college years I was a Cubs fan. Cubs fans know how to have fun! The Cubs are a bunch of losers and the fans need to drink themselves silly to feel better about liking such losers. Yep, I like drinkers and drinking.

Will she be a crazy Cubs fan?

Now as an adult, living in San Diego, I am a Padres fan. (Why, why, why do I choose such shitty teams?!!?) For the first time I really like baseball. Petco Park is amazing and thanks to Jeff I can actually watch baseball on television not fall asleep. I think I can name a player or two also!

Will Leila stay true to her SoCal roots and love the Padres?

Leila will have to decide for herself. We'll love her no matter what team she chooses!

The Spa

Bath time (nicknamed "The Spa" by Aunt Val) is suppose to be a relaxing part of our nightly routine.

Can I consider it part of our nightly routine even if she doesn't get a bath each night?!?

But this little girl cannot even sit still long enough to take a bath.

I should probably NOT be celebrating the fact that I allow my daughter to stand up in the slippery bathtub. But I am.

Leila has been pulling up and cruising around on EVERYTHING these days. She loves standing up and is so proud when she does it all by herself.

The other day Jeff was concerned that she had be standing against the foot rest for too long. Too long? Imagine if you could only lay on your back or belly for seven and a half months. You'd want to stand all the time too!

Mother's Day

Being a mom on Mother's Day is fantastic. I got to do exactly what I wanted to.

Sleep in, go for a walk, and drink champagne!

I always expected that I would be a mom some day. I'm so happy my plan for my grown-up self worked out.

It is strange though, being a mom. I am not sure what I imagined it would feel like, but I did imagine it would feel more defined than this. I thought it would be easier to put into words. (What...I do not know what to say?!!?)

I've been telling my friends and family members that even after 7 1/2 months of motherhood, I still don't feel like a mom.

So I guess that is the thing I am wondering. What does it feel like to be a mom? Can you help me put it into words?

Jeff's birthday

Jeff celebrated his birthday this week. Leila was one of the first to wish him a happy day.

I can't remember who started this.

Stay-cation

So the word is a little lot overused, but it had to have been created by someone living in a vacation spot, like San Diego.

That's what we do here. Stay home and live the spring break vacation lifestyle.

Leila and I took full advantage of the teacher appreciation deal and got a FREE Fun Card at Sea World. The two of us get to go to Sea World anytime we want until December 31, 2011!

Maybe in a few months she will actually look at the animals instead of all the people.

Just another day in paradise!

BFF Baby #3

Oh my! I am dying with excitement and anticipation. This is not even my baby! But it is equally important.

Amy is in labor! Leila is about have a BFF!

I just saw Amy yesterday. She came down to the beach to get her free Sea World pass and buy some sunglasses. No big deal.

She looked great. She was still fitting into her wedding rings, regular shoes, and was not wearing a mu-mu. She looked like the preggo us swollen types are jealous of.

Baby Sage was not due until May 7th AND according to Amy (the busiest person in the world) the baby was not allowed out until this weekend. She had things to do, people to see.

Guess Baby Sage had different plans. Babies have a tendency to be control freaks.

I just got this text from Amy at 7:47pm on Thursday: N labor will update you six cent epidural is in

I literally jumped up off the couch and called out some jibber-jabber to Jeff in the kitchen.

Is it a girl or a boy? I think Amy and Colin still hadn't even agreed on a name! What day is today? I hope she has the baby today so that she's not in labor long. Did her water break? Good, she wasn't induced. Oh my gosh...is it a girl or a boy? (Yes, I started to repeat my self.)

AHHHHHHHHH!!! I am boiling over with excitement and can't even tell anyone!

.....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

But now I can. It's a...GIRL!!!!!

Kennady Marie Sage was born Thursday night. She weighs 6 lbs. 5 oz. and is 19 inches tall. Amy, Colin, and Kennady are doing great!

Leila is very excited to meet Kennady. We are headed over to there today to meet their little girl.

Leila and I packed up all her old clothes to hand down to her new friend. We have been so lucky to get so many hand-me-downs and I'm glad I can return the favor.

BUT I now have a very good excuse to buy Leila a few new outfits...Kennady will wear them too!

Even though I know how many clothes Kennady will have, I just couldn't resist buying her a matching hat to this yellow one of Leila's.
